Japan & China: Malaysia Education and MICE Opportunities
Japan education programmes and wider China codesharing give Malaysia travel agents two distinct opportunities for group travel planning.

Tourism Malaysia’s 24 September 2026 Tourism Expo Japan announcement highlighted Edu+ 2.0 with NAPEI and a JTB cooperation agreement. JTB confirms a September 2026–December 2027 framework covering sales-staff familiarisation trips, charter initiatives, MICE, school trips and study tours. Tourism Malaysia reported 200,579 Japanese visitors in January–June 2026, up 7.2%, and announced daily ZIPAIR Narita–Kuala Lumpur service from 20 October.
What this means for your Malaysia programme
On 29 September, Malaysia Airlines and China Southern announced codesharing on five additional Kuala Lumpur markets from 25 October: Shenzhen, Changsha, Xiamen, Chengdu and Zhengzhou. With Guangzhou, Beijing and Shanghai, cooperation covers eight routes. These are additions to codeshare coverage, not five newly launched routes. Tourism Malaysia reported about 1.4 million Chinese visitors in Q1 2026, up 25.2%. Hari-Hari’s assessment: Japan offers a clear education/MICE fit; China supports city-specific agency prospecting.

- Japan: enquire with Tourism Malaysia Tokyo about eligibility for Edu+ 2.0, future FAM visits and school/MICE ground handling. The announcements do not constitute an open invitation.
- Prepare Japanese proposals for STEM, university exposure, study visits and KL–Melaka or Malaysia–Singapore educational itineraries, subject to host approval.
- China: prepare separate agency proposals for Shenzhen, Chengdu, Changsha, Xiamen and Zhengzhou, with KL–Genting–Melaka, KL–Langkawi and Malaysia–Singapore options.
- Ask Hari-Hari for a customised group proposal covering hotels, transfers, guides, learning visits or corporate events, with dates, group size and budget.

This is an independent follow-up analysis of September announcements, not confirmation of a JTB, NAPEI or airline partnership. Flights, visits, programme eligibility and services require confirmation.
