Malaysia and Russia’s Ural travel trade: a signal for FAM trips and new packages
Reported talks highlight Russian-agent familiarisation visits and tailored Malaysia programmes, with opportunities for local ground partners.

DayakDaily reported on 28 September 2026 that Tourism Minister Tiong King Sing had discussed stronger tourism links with Ural Tourism Association president Mikhail Maltsev. The report describes a network spanning agencies, airlines, media and higher education, naming Aeroflot and Red Wings Airlines among its members. It attributes an estimated 15% share of Russian outbound travellers and a sizeable higher-income population to the Ural region. Tiong advocated bringing Russian agents to Malaysia to experience destinations and develop suitable packages. Reported Russian arrivals were 98,466 in January–August 2026, up 4.3% year-on-year, compared with 139,733 for the full year 2025.
What this means for your Malaysia programme
For Hari-Hari Travel, this suggests a practical B2B approach: offer destination inspections and product-development support to interested Russian agencies. A familiarisation (FAM) programme could combine Kuala Lumpur with Langkawi or Penang, subject to partner interest and agreed arrangements.

- Prepare a sample agent itinerary with hotel inspections, transfers and destination visits.
- Build Russian-language proposals for family, private, group and incentive travel.
- Agree dates, costs, guide availability and follow-up sales support before confirming any visit.
This is Hari-Hari’s interpretation of the reported discussions, not an announced government-funded FAM trip or confirmed association partnership.
