Haikou–Penang Flights: New Options for Malaysia Group Travel

Hainan Airlines scheduled its Haikou–Penang launch for 11 October 2026. Bernama’s route announcement lists Wednesday and Sunday services, with inaugural HU477 scheduled from Haikou at 17:30 to Penang at 20:45, local time. It quotes Penang’s tourism chairman describing Haikou as the ninth Chinese city with a scheduled direct link to Penang; that count includes Hong Kong.

What this means for your Malaysia programme

For Hainan-based travel agents, Penang can be the starting point for heritage, food and island holidays. Corporate and education planners can also explore cultural exchanges or requested industry visits. Visits to factories, universities and semiconductor facilities require host approval; the new flight does not make them automatically available.

• 4D3N Penang–Langkawi concept: arrive in Penang on day 1; explore George Town on day 2; travel to Langkawi on day 3; depart on day 4. Confirm domestic flights and the final international connection before quoting. A late first arrival limits sightseeing time.
• 6D5N Penang–Kuala Lumpur–Melaka concept: two nights in Penang and three in Kuala Lumpur, with a Melaka excursion. Allow travel time between cities. This outline needs a suitable onward or return flight and is not a guaranteed Haikou round trip.
• For agent partnerships: request net ground-arrangement rates with group size, hotel standard, meals, language needs and travel dates. Families, incentive groups and educational groups need different pacing and inclusions.
• With Wednesday/Sunday operation, departure and return combinations can create different trip lengths. Check specific dates, seat availability and domestic connections; a four-day or seven-night idea is not a confirmed airline package.
