GAMELAN 2026: Funding for Malaysia Travel Fairs and Agent FAM Trips
Updated 19 October 2026: Tourism Malaysia’s existing GAMELAN scheme may help eligible tourism businesses develop overseas partnerships. Funding remains subject to assessment and available allocation.

GAMELAN 2026 is an existing reimbursement scheme, not a newly announced grant. Tourism Malaysia’s published guidelines set 30 November 2026 as the application closing date, subject to remaining funds. Applications must precede the activity, and approved programmes must take place by 31 December 2026. Eligible registered Malaysian travel agencies can apply; eligibility alone does not guarantee an award.
How the reimbursement works
The maximum claim is the lower of 50% of eligible actual expenditure or the applicable category ceiling, subject to approval. For example, RM20,000 of approved qualifying costs could support reimbursement of up to RM10,000. This is an illustration, not a funding offer. Applicants need sufficient cash flow to pay programme costs before reimbursement.

- Physical international travel fairs overseas: maximum RM60,000.
- Physical travel fairs in Malaysia: maximum RM40,000.
- Physical tourism sales missions overseas: maximum RM60,000.
- Familiarisation trips in Malaysia with 1–10 participants: maximum RM50,000.
- Familiarisation trips in Malaysia with 11–20 participants: maximum RM80,000.
- Familiarisation trips in Malaysia with 21 or more participants: maximum RM100,000.
Prepare the application before the programme
Check the current checklist, MOTAC and SSM documents, itinerary, costs and projected returns. Submit online, send the complete hard copy and email a copy to gamelan@tourism.gov.my. Fair support is for exhibitors rather than visitor passes; category-specific conditions still apply. Avoid duplicate government funding for the same activity. Confirm approval and remaining allocation before making financial commitments, and retain evidence for the claim.
A practical idea for overseas-agent partnerships
Hari-Hari could explore a focused Malaysia familiarisation trip for qualified travel agents from Indonesia, Vietnam or Singapore. A useful proposal would combine hotel inspections, destination experiences and supplier meetings with clear products the invited agencies can sell. Select participants by market fit and their actual customer needs, then estimate potential bookings realistically. This is a proposal for evaluation, not an announced departure or approved grant project. GAMELAN is separate from the MOTAC inbound-tourism income-tax incentive.
